| Description GIS technology is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all forms of geographically referenced (spatial) information. The GIS Technician program consists of four courses. Course one introduces the student to GIS and remote sensing concepts and tools. Course two uses hands-on instruction to learn GIS skills from introductory digital mapping to image analysis. Course three uses advanced GIS tools, GPS, geocoding, Spatial Analyst, 3D Spatial Analyst, and Network Analyst to accurately survey the students’ local community and conduct site analysis. Course four is the capstone course, and brings all the previously learned skills together to conduct several geospatial application projects utilizing project management fundamentals. Special topics related directly to current industry techniques and production practices are reviewed with practical exercises. |
